Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov announced that its paid subscription service Telegram Premium has accumulated more than one million users in less than six months, calling it one of the most successful examples of social media subscription programs to date. Telegram has been exploring profit models in the past few years, such as trying to introduce advertisements in one-to-many public channels. The advantages of Telegram Premium are larger upload capacity, faster download speed, no ads, exclusive stickers and animated avatars, more advanced chat management features, and more. Durov said that subscription revenue only accounts for a small part of Telegram’s total revenue, and he hopes that in the future, Premium revenue will be on par with advertising revenue.
