Titanium Media App reported on May 19 that the Wall Street Journal reported on May 19 that U.S. auto safety regulators have launched a special investigation into a fatal crash involving a Tesla vehicle that has left three people dead. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed the investigation on Wednesday, confirming that the vehicle involved was a 2022 Tesla Model S. The agency added the accident to its list of car accidents it is investigating that could be related to semi-autonomous driving features. The regulator has disclosed that it is investigating more than 30 incidents of Tesla vehicles suspected of being involved in serious crashes using Autopilot, the self-driving feature. A number of other Tesla crashes on the list also resulted in fatalities, NHTSA records show. Tesla did not respond to a request for comment. Tesla has long said that driving with Autopilot turned on is safer than without it. An NHTSA spokesman on Wednesday would not comment further on the agency's investigation or confirm details of the accident that prompted the latest investigation.
