Sina Technology News Beijing time on the evening of August 24th, according to reports, Tesla’s lawyers today will urge a California judge to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the state’s civil rights agency. The lawsuit alleges widespread racial discrimination at Tesla’s California factory.

In February, the California Department of Civil Rights (DCR) sued Tesla, alleging that Tesla’s flagship factory in Fremont, California, was a racially discriminatory workplace and that black employees were harassed over job assignments, discipline and compensation and discrimination.

Tesla has denied wrongdoing, saying the lawsuit by the California Department of Civil Rights is largely politically motivated. To that end, Tesla wants a judge to dismiss the lawsuit. Today, California Superior Court Judge Evelio Grillo in Oakland will hold a hearing on Tesla’s request.

Tesla is currently facing a series of racial and gender discrimination cases, most of which involve its Fremont factory.

In October 2021, a jury had awarded Tesla $137 million in damages to Owen Diaz, a former black employee, for racial harassment at Tesla’s Fremont factory.

But in April, a federal district judge in San Francisco lowered the award to $15 million. Diaz appealed the case, and a judge will continue the case in March next year.
