The human nature of going back on one’s word

Yesterday I went to visit Jiaxing. Although a certain CEO made me very uncomfortable, one thing he mentioned made me feel a little bit.

At that time, he was negotiating with a technology expert from Shanda Department to acquire the company. They went back and forth three or four times, but the other party always regretted the agreement and then gave up. I can understand this situation because some of his experiences are similar to his own.

When I first came out to discuss partnership with Mr. Qian in the early years, the proportion of shares had been basically finalized after several rounds of negotiations. At the end of the day, when I went to Shanghai to sign the paper, Mr. Qian had to adjust the proportion again, and then I stepped on the brakes. . why?

The so-called adjustment of the proportion actually means lowering my proportion. First of all, this makes me uncomfortable because it has been discussed before, right?

Secondly, if I mention this matter when signing, I will have to worry about whether similar things will happen again once I sign? If we can go back on our word every time, I will have nothing to gain from this relationship, and naturally there is no hope that we can continue to do things together. Therefore, in the end there was no cooperation.

By last year or early this year, when Mr. Qian asked me to be his partner again, they had already had their own misunderstandings and it was difficult to meet each other.

Shanda’s brother above actually has the same truth. Going back on your word will make people lose trust in you, which also reflects your immaturity in handling interest relationships.

Of course, he was not the only one who was immature. I also went back on my word in the early days. When an old leader of Alibaba arrived at a new unit and asked me to come over, I agreed in person, but then regretted it twice, so I did a pretty bad job in this regard. Otherwise, life may be a different scenery. In the following years, in order to make up for the guilt in my heart, I would mail him a gift every year at the fixed season. Until one year when I went to chat with him at his new company, he mistakenly thought that I was doing business with him. PR, I will stop giving gifts every year from now on.

In short, it is difficult to manage this aspect of human nature without going through some tests of interests. I feel it is worth learning from, so I will make a supplement to “The Trap” .
