The United Nations may reach a ban on plastic bags in 2024

Plastic is one of the fastest growing materials. Global plastic production is expected to double by 2050 to more than 1 billion tons per year. Followed by, is the intensification of pollution. Plastic litter currently accounts for 85% of all marine litter. The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) predicts that by 2040, the amount of plastic waste in the ocean will nearly triple, with an annual increase of 23 million to 37 million tons. Faced with such a severe situation, countries have already begun to take action. Since November 28, representatives from more than 150 countries have convened in Uruguay for the first meeting of an intergovernmental negotiating committee to reach a historic global agreement to end plastic pollution. The agreement is expected to be concluded by the end of 2024. One of the daunting tasks facing representatives of countries is meeting to agree on rules and strategies to curb plastic pollution.
