Apple CEO Tim Cook made some comments around artificial intelligence amid the surge in popularity of ChatGPT and other chatbots. Cook said on Apple’s quarterly earnings call today that the potential of artificial intelligence is “very interesting,” but noted that the technology has “a few kinks that need to be addressed” and that it’s “important to be thoughtful” about how it’s used.
Apple has integrated artificial intelligence and machine learning into several of its products and services, Cook said, pointing to features such as fall detection, collision detection and an electrocardiogram app on the Apple Watch. He added that Apple will continue to weave artificial intelligence into its products on a “very thoughtful basis.”
The New York Times reported in March that the excitement surrounding chatbots shows how Siri and other traditional voice assistants are “wasting their lead in the AI race” because Siri’s capabilities are still far more limited than chatbots, despite It was launched more than 10 years ago.
The Information reported last month that Apple employees “broadly criticized Siri’s shortcomings” and proposed large language model improvements that they hope will be rolled out in next year’s iOS release.
