U.S. chip tool suppliers KLA and Lam Research suspended operations in Yangtze Memory after the Commerce Department imposed new restrictions on chip exports. U.S. suppliers suspended support for installed equipment, suspended new equipment installations, and pulled staff out of YMTC. U.S. suppliers have dozens of employees stationed at YMTC’s factories and play an important role in plant operations and manufacturing capacity development.
