My https://ift.tt/u1nqImK service is a high concurrency intensive io service with a particularly high number of connections and open files. In linux, everything is a file, so the number of connections itself will also appear as the number of open files. By default, the limit on the number of open files for a single process in linux is 1024, which is very low and can easily be exceeded in intensive io services.
