Unity enters China to attract investment from Alibaba and other companies

Game engine developer Unity announced the establishment of Unity China, focusing on expanding the Chinese market. Investors in the new joint venture include Alibaba, China Mobile, Gigabit, Mihayou, OPPO, Jiadu Technology, and Douyin Group, with a valuation of $1 billion, with Unity owning a majority stake and control. Unity China will build local, customized versions of its core products for game developers, including a Chinese version of the flagship Unity Editor. It will also be the exclusive distributor in China. The Unity engine is widely used to develop mobile and indie games.
