US Army will use Google Workspace services

The $10 billion JEDI (Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure) cloud computing contract awarded to Microsoft by the U.S. Department of Defense in 2019 sparked controversy and eventually led to the withdrawal of the contract. The Pentagon then pursued a strategy of diversifying cloud computing providers beyond a single cloud provider. The U.S. Army had previously purchased Microsoft’s Office 365, but 250,000 soldiers were not included in the Office 365 licensing package. Now Google’s official blog announces that the 250,000 soldiers will use its Google Workspace service, calling the US Army its first major customer for Google Public Sector.
