US successfully tests hypersonic missile prototype

The U.S. Air Force has successfully tested its first hypersonic missile prototype. The missile prototype, known as the AGM-183A Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon or ARRW (Arrow), is expected to be the first hypersonic missile to enter service. The exact speed of the AGM-183A is unknown, but it is rumored to have a maximum speed of Mach 20, or 24,000 kilometers per hour. The U.S. Air Force tested it at a training range off the coast of California on Friday, Dec. 9, at speeds in excess of Mach 5, and it is designed to destroy high-value targets.
