This time we moved from Madison, along the Mississippi River all the way south, driving to Austin, passing through 6 states on the way, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas (Arkansas), Texas (Texas), opened nearly 2000 kilometers. Write a travel journal.

journey

First summarize the formation, starting from Madison, the first day to St.Louis (St.Louis), the second day to Memphis (Memphis), the third day to Dallas (Dallas), the fourth day to noon to Austin (Austin) ).

The section from Madison to Memphis is to advance along the Mississippi River. Many times, drive along the east bank of the river during the day and stay on the west bank at night; or drive on the west bank during the day and go to the east bank to eat. The Mississippi River irrigates the Great Plains of the central United States, creating some of the largest fertile soils in the world that are ideal for farming. This way is basically in the cornfield, accompanied by grazing grass to drive over. It’s relatively monotonous, and of course it’s very easy to drive, as long as you pay attention to the speed limit. It is basically a straight road, pay attention to the distance between cars, pay attention to big trucks, and pay attention to the speed limit.

feel

As I said before, this time I was mainly moving, so I was in a hurry, mainly because of the road. Of course, it is also because these central states are agricultural states, and the traditional MidWest is the kind of relatively monotonous Great Plains, so the special landscape is relatively few. Over the years, the economy of the east and west coasts has developed greatly, and the relative central states have become somewhat stagnant.

But there are still some special attractions, such as the Gateway Arch National Park in St. Louis, which claims to be the only national park in the city center. This time I went, and it really was an arched building made of steel by the Mississippi River. Take the elevator up and see the St. Louis skyline. Nothing else. It took 30 minutes to browse and was ridiculed as the most water national park.

Another impressive attraction is Little Rock high school, which is actually a high school in the heart of Little Rock, but where a turning point in American history is located. I drove by at noon and took a look. The school is very classical and beautiful. Regarding what happened here, many Chinese may have seen it in “Forrest Gump”, the following is an excerpt from History.com’s introduction https://www.history.com/topics/black-history/central-high -school-integration

What happened in 1957 at Little Rock high school?

On September 4, 1957, the first day of classes at Central High, Governor Orval Faubus called in the Arkansas National Guard to block the Black students’ entry into the high school. Later that month, President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent in federal troops to escort the Little Rock Nine into the school.
