? Announcement of suspension of publication

Good afternoon dear readers, thank you for opening this letter, this is the last issue of “Walking Handbook”.

At the beginning of the establishment of the World Walk, Taiwan’s physical activities have been greatly reduced due to the impact of the epidemic. Now that the world is entering the “post-epidemic era”, we cherish the opportunity of face-to-face contact even more. In order to redistribute energy, we have also decided that the publication of “Walking Handbook” will be officially suspended from October 31st .

If you have any suggestions or confessions, you are welcome to come and share, walk away and cherish every interaction forever, thank you?

On the other hand, we are also excited to announce that the series of lectures [ World Walk X Their Actions] has started in November , and we are looking forward to more opportunities to communicate with real people!

3.【Maze of Evidence ─ How to confirm whether sexual assault occurred? ] (Injured Prison Rehabilitation Association, Chunshan Publishing)

Event URL: fb.me/e/5ML65fC19

Time: October 25 (Tuesday) 19:30-21:30
Subject: Sexual assault cases usually take place in a secret room, and there are only the parties at the scene. Therefore, whether the victim decides to come forward after the incident or is forced to enter the judicial process, it is difficult to provide definite evidence other than the victim’s own statement, even if there is a hymen. Injury examination, polygraph detection, PTSD identification and other scientific evidence often result in different results due to different interpretations by experts. Similarly, if the defendant in a sexual assault case is wrongly accused of being a “perpetrator”, he is often unable to clear his innocence because there is no solid evidence to prove his innocence. It can be seen that it is never easy to determine whether a sexual assault has occurred. What is “scientific evidence”? Are they really “science”? What level of scientific evidence does it take to convict a defendant in a sexual assault case? This talk will discuss the evidentiary conundrum in sexual assault cases.

A Buddhist-Muslim divide developed after Myanmar’s independence, resulting in a conflict between Rakhine Buddhist communities and Rohingyas, which intensified to unprecedented levels and culminated in the “state-sponsored massive violence.” It is not only Myanmar, but also in their asylum countries such as Bangladesh and India, where the Rohingyas find themselves subjected to discrimination and violations of their human rights.

9.【Are we all Ruan Yuejiao? – Talking about the real situation and demands of Vietnamese people in Taiwan from Carrefour advertisements] (Bright Times: Southeast Asia Theme Bookstore)

Event URL: fb.me/e/22pcsv7at

Time: October 28 (Fri) 19:00-21:00
Theme: In July and August this year, Carrefour Supermarket and YouTuber Ah Han released an advertisement. Ah Han played the role of a Vietnamese woman named “Nuan Yue Jiao”, not only jokingly imitating the stereotyped Chinese accent of Vietnamese people, but also having a lot of context for the image of the relationship between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law run by Vietnamese daughter-in-law. In the end, Carrefour quietly took down the advertisement under the protest of the Vietnamese organization in Taiwan. However, it has not apologized so far, and Ah Han has only “expressed regret”.

Many people, whether they are organizing groups or self-employed people who have contributed to the media, who are trying to speak for the many Vietnamese new residents who are married to Taiwanese, and Vietnamese migrant workers who are struggling to work, have received more and more from unworthy Taiwanese. The more profound and unreasonable criticisms, editions, public trials, and witch hunts are very painful for an already vulnerable group of people. In this lecture, the speaker will discuss the real situation and demands of Vietnamese people in Taiwanese society. I hope that even if my Vietnamese friends in Taiwan cannot come to the scene, they will know that some people remember this controversy and are still concerned about the issue of new residents.
Speaker: Mai Yuzhen (Chairman of the Taiwan New Residents Party, Vietnamese)
Moderator: Zhang Zheng (owner of Brilliant Time Southeast Asia-themed bookstore)

In this lecture, the speaker will focus on a social survey on the image of Taiwanese people’s asylum system.
