Data released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology and forecasts from SMIC show that demand for smartphones in China is weakening . Industry executives and analysts said that low-end phones will likely be hit hardest and fastest, and consumers with lower incomes who tend to buy cheaper phones will reduce such spending amid economic uncertainty. Mobile phone makers including Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo have been hit the hardest, with Apple leaning toward high-end products, although sales of its lower-priced iPhone SE may be affected. Analysts estimate that China’s major smartphone makers have slashed orders for about 270 million handsets compared with previous industry expectations.
