@lidanggzz :

I haven’t read a book in about four or five years.

Books are a very backward knowledge carrier. Today’s videos/blogs/forums/papers/documents are far more efficient, interactive and time-sensitive carriers than books.

The most cutting-edge knowledge must not be obtained by reading books, because the systematic books are only initially formed and published two years after the outbreak of knowledge.

Don’t worship books too much, today’s books are just one of many knowledge carriers.

On the frontier, papers come before books – popular science books. But cutting edge does not equal efficiency. Knowledge is not for those who produce it, but for all. The person who produces Type A knowledge also needs efficiency in the face of Type B knowledge, and what she needs is a book instead of a dissertation. In addition, popular science books, non-fiction books are only a part of all books. In literature, fiction often precedes TV/movie by many years.

Videos, blogs, and forums are the exact opposite of what this gentleman said, and they are basically the wisdom of picking up popular science books and non-fiction books. As for interactivity, quality must be guaranteed by a high threshold. If you really want to contact an author who doesn’t use social networks at all, nothing will stop you. You don’t need anyone. You don’t need any money either. But no one can help you if you forget that the author has no obligation to interact with you.

Finally, and most importantly, a book is not “just one of many carriers”, and no carrier is just one of many carriers. Each carrier is shaping a specific human type. Some types are more like living a good life than others.
