IT House May 23 news, extracting and sharing APK files has always been a big advantage of the Android ecosystem, however, undefined recently proposed to undefined to prohibit extracting APK files.
According to information shared by Mishaal Rahman on undefined, Xiaomi developers have submitted a proposal to the Android open source project AOSP to completely prevent Android device owners from copying APK files from their phones. The reason for disabling is to protect “private resources”.
Getting the APK through the shell is not allowed, the APK may contain some private resources, so we shouldn’t let others pull it.
Xiaomi developers recommend that Android apps are only available from the Google Play Store or other trusted app stores.
Google appears to have directly opposed the proposal. A Google employee pointed out the problem in Xiaomi’s proposal, which would only prevent ordinary users from extracting APK files, while enthusiasts with certain technical skills can continue to extract APKs as usual by simply installing a debug version of the Android system. Following this logic, Google objected to Xiaomi’s approach to protection because doing so doesn’t actually protect anything.
In addition, several Google employees objected to treating the contents of APK files as “private resources.”
IT House learned that in September last year, Xiaomi mobile phones began to recruit MIUI pure mode internal test users. Pure mode is a new installation mode that restricts the installation of applications that have not been reviewed by Xiaomi.
