I started to pay attention to the ancient post road in Chengyu , which originated from a video posted by an up-host named “The Boss of Pepper’s Family” from Station B. The subject that was all around me immediately caught my attention, and I asked my dad to be my guide, and it took less than half an hour to get to the post booth.
On the way, I asked my father if he had been to Youting Old Street. Dad said he had never been, but he had heard of it. When he was a child, he followed his grandfather by car many times.
Above this is the old street of the post booth, and the new street is on the other side of the train station.

On the way, the guide pointed me to the hundreds of acres of fertile fields along the way, jokingly said that if the elder brother who didn’t have grandpa smoked and was defeated, we would also be the family of Yinfeng. But I am also fortunate that I have no background to rely on. Grandpa came out to learn the craft of driving at a young age, so that the family will not be hungry in the days to come and even the years of famine.
When we arrived at our destination, my father’s memory of finding the way was surprisingly good. Whether it was the old postal street that my grandfather told him fifty years ago, or a corner that was easy to catch fish that was casually mentioned by a fisherman, they were all on the same map. in the mind.
When you first step into the old street, the entrance is two yellow kudzu trees that cross each other, taking you into the mottled time. The old-fashioned telephone poles pulled the irregular wires, and like a spider web, I put my thoughts back to decades ago. The outpatient department I passed by and the outpatient department in my memory even had some memory overlaps.
Youting is located in Dazu District, Chongqing City, on the Chengdu-Chongqing Ancient Road. It used to be called Youtingpu, then it was called Youting Commune, and now it is called Youting Town.
At that time, mails sent from Chengdu via Rongchang, mails from Chongqing via Yongchuan, and mails from Dazu to Chengdu and Chongqing were all delivered to the pavilion of the inn, and sent and received by the inn owner on behalf of the postman at the county government office at the end of each month. How much to pay.
After a long time, the pavilion was called the postal pavilion, and the street was called the postal pavilion. British diplomat Edward Colborn Barber mentioned in his book “Traveling and Investigation in West China” that Postingpu and Zizhou (now Zizhong County, Sichuan Province) were the most prosperous places on the East-Chongqing Road.
During the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, businessmen built street houses here, with more than ten shops including restaurants, inns, teahouses, restaurants, and daily groceries.
The old street was originally about one kilometer long. It used to be the main road between Chongqing and Chengdu. There were many shops, inns, and theaters in it. Now there are only about 500 meters left.
Not long after entering the street, it was a former theater. In the 1960s and 1970s, there were huge crowds of people singing operas and showing movies. Today’s theaters have long been hard to find, and only the yellow kudzu tree behind the stage is still standing.
The middle section of the old street is now the CBD area on the old street, and only here is the most popular. A teahouse that accommodates six or seven tables and a Guandi Temple once built with the collective investment of the residents of the old street, even the 40-degree weather can not kill the enthusiasm of Chongqing people to play mahjong and shuffle, and the black old dirt covers the original color of electricity. The fan creaked non-stop and I was worried it might fall off accidentally.
In the early morning, it gradually became quiet after ten o’clock, and it became lively after lunch. The children of the old people did not stay in the old street, and the old street was just the hometown that the old people could not give up.
The auntie in the old house proudly introduced me to this street, but it was also filmed in a movie. After careful inspection, it turned out that Feng Xiaogang and Chen Chong’s remake of the Chinese version of “The Loyal Dog Hachiko” was shot here. The movie scheduled to be released in the Lunar New Year in 2022 has not been released for some reason.
When it was released, I also wanted to see the difference between the old street on the big screen and what I wrote.
Continuing to walk under the scorching sun, we passed a private middle school called “Chunhui School”. According to the grandma in the canteen at the entrance, there were more than 800 students, almost all left-behind children whose parents were working abroad. This boarding school allowed them to learn from the formalities. I believe that children will not learn badly.
It was summer vacation, and I didn’t have the chance to hear the old postal street with the sound of books, but I imagined what this old street would look like when I was on vacation. It was like a tide full of freshness and vitality rushing down. The house is out of place, and it also complements the lush shade of the yellow kudzu tree.
In the back section of the old street, there was the seat of the post-Ting Township government, and the “bank” in the mouth of the grandmother was actually the credit union of the year, the veterinary clinic of the year, and the mansion of “Minister Wang”.
Now the end of the road is an eight-lane highway, but my grandmother told me that their house was shattered to build the road. At the other end of the road, there is also the second half of the truncated old street, but the house is even more dilapidated.
The story of the old street also seems to be cut off by the long river of time, and in the future, there may be no one who wants to know about it.
I came out of the old street and went to eat the fatty sausage fish from Mrs. Wen’s house. It is said that the business was not good in the new location, and then moved back to the old place to continue to prosper. The feng shui of the old street nourishes the people of the old street.
