According to Weibo news, some investors suggested on the interactive platform that ZTE should increase the patent royalty fee for countries that prohibit the company from participating in 5G construction.

In this regard, ZTE said that, as a 5G standard technology contributor and one of the SEP holders, as well as a major global communication equipment and service provider, ZTE has been committed to promoting technology research and development and technology sharing on the one hand, providing customers and Consumers provide better products and services, and on the other hand, they also take various measures and business operations to protect their intellectual property rights and obtain reasonable R&D returns. At present, ZTE has obtained sustainable licensing income with its patent reserves including 5G patents, and the patent value has been recognized by the industry. At the same time, 5G patents are standard-essential patents in the communications field. When licensing SEPs, the company will comply with standards organization policies and global regulations, cases, and industry practices.

It is reported that ZTE has always regarded independent technological innovation as the first driving force for enterprise development, adhered to “rooting down”, and established R&D institutions in many places around the world to maintain its core areas such as 5G wireless, core network, bearer, access, and chips. Its R&D investment has remained above 10% of its operating income for many years. According to the “Top Runners in the 5G Patent Race” report released by the internationally renowned patent data company IPLytics in November 2021, ZTE’s disclosure of 5G standard-essential patent claims to ETSI ranks fourth in the world.
