Recently, I need to replace the mobile phone for the elders. Within a limited budget, after many comparisons, I found that Xiaomi’s hardware configuration is better, and finally I placed an order for Xiaomi.

In 2022, the Android system will further restrict mobile phone permissions, and some past carton problems have been resolved to some extent. However, on the domestic customized version of Android machine, there are still some more special things compared with the native Android system:

Ubiquitous system-level advertisements induce users to click/touch by mistake, so as to jump/download the APP
“Accidentally downloaded” APPs take up valuable memory/hard disk resources and slow down your phone
Aircraft carrier-level APP with domestic characteristics, one APP occupies several G of hard disk, and some small and beautiful applications even dozens of G

Of the three problems above, most of the first two can be solved with a certain amount of effort, and the third one has no choice but to fight hard. This article focuses on the topic of “turning off MIUI’s ubiquitous advertising”.

Although MIUI has always been called ADUI, individuals in this industry can also express their understanding:

This article was written on 2022.09 and uses MIUI 13.0.4 version. Over time, other versions of MIUI may have inconsistent operations, which requires readers’ attention.

1. Turn off advertising push by conventional means

1.1 Turn off system advertisements

Many built-in applications of MIUI (such as weather, perpetual calendar, music) and system-level pages (such as desktop folders) will push some stickers to induce users to watch and click.

The user feedback may be too intense. In a version update at the end of 2019, the function of “one-click to close system advertisements” was added. This switch is also easy to find. We go directly to “Settings”, then enter “System Advertising” in the search box, then click to enter a new page, and turn off the “System Tool Advertising” switch.

We can check the involved APPs through “View the List of Involved Apps”, and then go to the relevant APPs to check whether the advertisements are removed. At this time, most of the system advertisements have been closed, but some built-in applications still have many advertisements that cannot be closed. I will give an example below.

The homepage of the Xiaomi browser will push a lot of news, which often causes the homepage to freeze and unnecessary false touches. At this time, we can enter “Browser Settings” -> “Homepage Settings”, select “Concise Version”, and then turn off the “Gongge Push” switch; after returning to the browser homepage, click on the upper right corner, and click on the demand To turn off “Quick URL” and “Hot List on the Internet”, you can finally get a clean home page.

There are gold coin tasks that cannot be cancelled in the Xiaomi video , which induces you to install the APP. In fact, in the presence of a certain sound and a certain hand, other video apps are unnecessary. So we can turn off “Online Services” through “Xiaomi Video Settings” -> “Others”, so that it will only play local videos honestly, without adding so many messy video stream information.

Xiaomi Music has two service modes, one is “QQ Music Mode” and the other is “Mi Music Mode”, users can choose one of the two.

“QQ Music Mode” is very lightweight and only has the core functions of QQ Music. If there is a need to listen to music online, this mode is quite good and can be retained.

“Millet Music Mode” also has the function of listening to music online, but like Xiaomi Video, it also has advertisements that cannot be dropped. Fortunately, it also has the ability to turn off the “online content service”. If there is no need to listen to music online (or have other options), you can turn off the online service and let it only be used for local audio playback.

Other apps can also follow the above ideas and turn off advertisements through some settings, so I will not list them one by one.

1.2 Adjust desktop interaction logic

The current mobile operating system, whether it is Android or iOS, has similar functions on the system desktop: sliding down the desktop can open the global search page, and swiping left on the desktop can enter the negative screen with tool widgets.

On MIUI, in addition to this “left slide” and “slide down”, there is an additional “up slide”: a page similar to today’s headlines will be opened to push daily news (guang) news (gao).

In fact, these three functions are used very infrequently and are easy to touch by mistake. The most important thing is that they are not the same as iOS. They are not integrated into the system, but open three apps independently, which will take up valuable memory space . So I also disabled them here.

Close the content center : Go to “Settings”, search for “Desktop Sliding”, enter a new page and change “Desktop Sliding” to “None”
Turn off global search : Go to “Settings”, search for “Desktop”, and turn off the “Desktop Search Box” switch after entering a new page

After closing, you can prevent the related APP from being opened by accident, and then we can also use technical means to uninstall the related APP.

1.3 Turn off system upgrade reminder

Compared with other mobile phone manufacturers, Xiaomi is not able to recruit high-level Android developers because of profitability problems, so every MIUI upgrade will cause a series of uncontrollable bugs. Moreover, after upgrading the system, the previous de-advertising configuration may be initialized, so it is best to prohibit the system upgrade.

2. Carefully choose/install APP

2.1 The speed version of the APP is not speedy

Now many large-scale APPs have developed sub-applications with super-speed versions, such as the super-speed version of a certain tone/degree/hand, which sounds like a simplified version of the original APP. If you go to the application market, the installation package is also much smaller than the normal version. , it feels like you can enjoy a refreshing application after installing it.

If you think so, you are very wrong. First of all, the installation package looks so small, but it is actually just a blindfold. These speed version APPs will basically download the small volume of one trillion after startup. What the heck is the speed version?

The name Speed Edition is extremely misleading, and I think it’s more straightforward to change it to “Money Edition”. The speed version of the app has already been copied as “qutoutiao”, focusing on sinking the market. The gimmick of swiping mobile phones and watching advertisements to make money easily attracts some users to use the APP, increasing the coverage and daily activity of the APP. Therefore, these APPs are not only not very fast, but also have a lot of advertisements, which directly conflict with the purpose of “de-advertising” in this article, so these APPs cannot be installed.

2.2 Do not upgrade APP easily

Personally suggest that some non-financial apps should not be upgraded frequently. Because so far, the dividends of the mobile Internet have basically disappeared, and the functions and positioning of the current major hilltop applications are very stable, and their core functions are relatively stable accordingly. Therefore, the daily APP update is generally to maintain some embroidery functions in the corners, so it is said that “unnecessary do not upgrade”.

3. adb uninstall the built-in APP of the system

The content of the above two sections can be screened and modified by ordinary users, and the content of this section will take some effort.

The permission level of Android can be simply divided into 3 parts:

User permissions : the permissions of ordinary users, including installing/uninstalling apps, modifying some system configurations, etc., are considered the lowest level of permissions
Developer permission : As the name suggests, it is the permission that the developer who develops the mobile APP can control. Compared with the user permission, it has more configurable content.
ROOT permission : the highest permission of Android, you can do anything to your Android system, dangerous and powerful

We have almost done what we can do under the “User Permission”. The “ROOT Permission” is difficult to open and the threshold is very high. It is easy to break the phone if you are not familiar with it (also known as “bricking”), so we You can open the “developer permissions” built into every Android system to further optimize MIUI.

3.1 Built-in APPs that must not be uninstalled

Although you can delete most of the apps with developer permission, there are two types of apps that must not be deleted. After deletion, the phone will crash and be scrapped .

One is the APP related to Xiaomi’s core brand , such as Xiaomi account and Xiaomi cloud service. These apps are all Xiaomi’s core brands, and Xiaomi will not let people easily move. After searching on the Internet and the pitfalls of predecessors, the following APPs must not be deleted:

 com.miui.cloudservice （小米云服务） com.xiaomi.account （小米账户） com.android.updater （系统更新） com.miui.cloudbackup （云备份） com.xiaomi.market （应用市场）

The second category is the mobile phone basic function APP , such as camera, Bluetooth, SMS, phone and other functions. There are no advertisements for these functions. After deletion, it may cause a series of strange problems, and even become bricked, so this kind of APP cannot be deleted.

3.2 Uninstall ad built-in components

MIUI has a very disgusting part, that is, they will automatically add a splash screen advertisement when the APP starts. If the app itself has splash screen ads, then you have to watch two ads at the same time (double the happiness).

Fortunately, these advertisements are posted with the following two independent apps, which can be safely uninstalled (the Chinese name is very confusing, but the English name exposes everything):

After uninstalling, there will be no extra patch ads.

3.3 Uninstall Quick Apps

The original intention of Quick Apps is good. Major mobile phone manufacturers learn WeChat mini-programs (or are under pressure from WeChat mini-programs) and provide a lightweight software model that prevents users from installing large and bloated apps. But in the Android ecosystem, quick apps have evolved into “ad launchers”, which often give you pop-up ads. Specifically to MIUI, mainly the following two APPs, which are quiet after uninstalling:

3.4 Uninstall low-frequency apps

Generally, after an Android phone is activated, a lot of APPs will be pre-installed, which can generally be divided into four categories:

System-level applications : such as phone calls, text messages, cameras. As I said before, this type of APP cannot be deleted, and there is a danger of crashing if deleted.
Brand-level applications : such as Xiaomi accounts and application markets. Because it involves Xiaomi’s core brand and company positioning, although it looks annoying, it cannot be deleted.
Extended applications : There are APPs such as memo, weather, computer, music, and voice assistant. The feature is that the function is relatively basic and the ability is relatively simple, which is generally developed by Xiaomi itself to expand the system functions, which can be deleted or not. If there are no ads, it’s okay to keep it
Pre-installed applications : Generally, there are applications from domestic manufacturers such as a certain degree, a certain tone, and a certain hand. These applications are all paid to Xiaomi, so they can occupy a pit. At first glance, these applications are commercial APPs. You can safely delete them. It is not a big problem to delete them all.

After the pre-installed application is deleted, we can slowly uninstall the “extended application”.

In the section “1.1 Turning Off System Ads”, we disabled the three giants of desktop ads, but only hidden the entrance. If you want to do it more cleanly, you can kill the following three built-in apps:

There are still many apps that can be deleted. Here I suggest to open “Settings” -> “App Settings” -> “App Management”, and check the installed list. As long as it is not a dangerous app, delete it if it is not pleasing to the eye.

The above steps are all for MIUI, but many apps installed from the app store also have advertisements themselves, such as start screen advertisements, in-app activity pop-up advertisements, and so on. Thanks to the open environment of Android, we can install the ad jumping plug-in “Li Tiaotiao”, and let it help to automatically skip ads.

4.1 Install Li Tiaotiao

Just follow the developer’s WeChat account “Miss Li Tiaotiao”, and then reply to any content in the background to get the installation package. I just posted it here:

As of the time of writing (2022-09-28), the version that jumps to the advertisement is the “Pai Daxing 2.0.1” version, which can be installed according to the instructions after downloading. Personally, it is recommended to directly open it as a resident in the background to avoid system manslaughter.

4.2 Li jump jump with `auto.js`

After a tossing down, I think Android really succeeds and fails in openness. The too loose permission system makes many apps unscrupulous, and it also gives various manufacturers the ability to change and add advertisements, which makes the Android ecosystem unable to get rid of the word “stutter”; but on the other hand, Android’s playability is also very high, such as Li Tiaodiao, a very convenient automatic advertising software, is absolutely impossible to do on iOS.
