Reset MoneyWiz data

My MoneyWiz has been in use for 4 years. Since June 2018, a large amount of consumption data and income data have been recorded.

Over the past four years, I have recorded more than 6,000 pieces of data on MoneyWiz, which recorded my spending habits, living habits, and historical trajectories in the past four years.

But on the other hand, my records over the past four years are also extremely unreasonable, such as using only 17 refunds in the past 4 years (obviously more than 17 refunds), a large number of balance adjustments (on average, every The balance will be adjusted every 3 days). These are abnormal numbers that highlight a lot of unreasonable bookkeeping behavior I’ve had over the past four years.

It is precisely because of my unreasonable records that my data in the past could not well support my own data analysis. Therefore, I hope that on the occasion of 4 years, I will start all over again, start bookkeeping in a more correct and reasonable way, and use MoneyWiz correctly to assist my life.

How to handle historical data?

Although there are errors and omissions in the historical data, after all, it also represents my consumption habits in the past few years and cannot be completely discarded. But on the other hand, I also hope that these data will not affect my new accounting. So I exported it from MoneyWiz and backed it up to Google Drive. In this way, if I need to re-analyze my historical data in the future, I can still analyze it based on my exported data.

Why not consider BeanCount?

In fact, I also considered BeanCount, but it does not seem to be so convenient, and there are no “budget” and “forecast” functions that I think are very important. For me, I don’t think it is necessary to switch to BeanCount.

Not only that, if I use BeanCount, I also need to configure the server myself. For me at the moment, I don’t think it is a high priority. I will continue to use a relatively open accounting software (such as Moneywiz), which can export all data, which will be available in the future. It is possible to migrate to BeanCount.

Summarize

In the past four years, I am very grateful to MoneyWiz and myself for the hard work in the past, and I have successfully developed the habit of bookkeeping. But on the other hand, in the next time, I hope I can complete the accounting better, instead of leaving myself unanalyzable dirty data like in the past.
