Today is World Population Day – the anniversary in 1987 when a baby born in Yugoslavia was identified as the 5 billionth person on earth. According to United Nations forecasts , the world’s population will exceed the 8 billion mark in November, while India will surpass China next year to become the world’s most populous country.
The report on economic and social affairs of the United Nations also pointed out that the current world population is growing at the slowest rate since the 1950s.
