Using climate data from 2000 to 2019, the researchers calculated changes in ice sheet volume and area that Greenland’s ice imbalance has already caused . Under either future climate scenario, the loss of mass from the Greenland ice sheet would lead to a loss of 5,900 square kilometers of sea ice, equivalent to a loss of 3.3 percent of its ice volume, raising sea levels by at least 274 mm.
