Brazil announced that it will stop selling Apple iPhones without chargers, and Apple faces a fine of 12.2755 million reais (about 2.3 million US dollars). Apple announced in 2020 that products such as the iPhone and EarPod would no longer provide chargers on environmental grounds, but the Brazilian government believes that what Apple has done is to pass the burden on to consumers. Brazil also believes that if Apple was serious about being green, it could support a more versatile USB-C charger. The European Union has passed legislation requiring electronics such as smartphones to use the USB-C charging standard by 2024. The Brazilian government also pointed out that the iPhone did not drop its price after removing the charger.
