A spokeswoman for Vestager said the purpose of her meeting was to assess how the company was prepared to comply with new EU rules on internet security and fair competition among technology companies that came into force this year. The European Commission also plans to meet with other technology companies, the spokesman said.
When asked about the upcoming meeting, a spokesperson for the European Commission said on the 6th that the EU is generally concerned about the protection of personal data on TikTok and other applications. A TikTok spokesman declined to comment.
