Since I have more time recently, I plan to complete a small project that I have not completed in the past ten years in the next year: watch all the movies of “Douban 250”.

“Douban 250” is a ranking modeled after IMDB250, listing the 250 movies with the highest ratings by Douban users. The ranking results are based on the number of users who commented and their ratings, and are combined through algorithmic analysis and weighting.

In the “Douban” APP, I can see that my current “Douban 250” viewing progress is: I have watched 134 movies in 15 years and 10 months, and the viewing time is 283 hours. In other words, I still have 116 movies on the list, and I plan to watch these 116 movies within one year.

In order to better and more effectively appreciate various types and styles of film works, and watch these films at my own pace, I have prepared a viewing plan:

Program Description:

We divide the Top 250 movies into four stages, each stage contains movies of the same category, and each category is divided into subcategories, and we watch movies in each subcategory step by step to adapt to a reasonable time and viewing speed.

The four major categories are divided according to countries and regions, namely: mainland movies, Hong Kong and Taiwan movies, Japanese and Korean movies, and European and American movies. The subcategories are classified according to Douban’s own movies, including: drama, comedy, love, action, science fiction, animation, suspense, crime, thriller, adventure, music, history, fantasy, horror, war, biography, song and dance, martial arts, disaster etc.

Plan implementation:

On the official website of “Douban 250”, click “What I haven’t watched”, and you can filter out 116 movies that I haven’t watched. According to Douban, 209 of the “Douban 250” movies have playback sources and can be played directly. I am currently a member of iQiyi, Youku, and Bilibili, and I can watch most movies. For movies that do not have playback sources, I will download movies from related movie download websites, and then share them to watch on TV.

There are 116 movies in “Douban 250” that I haven’t watched. Assuming that each movie is 2 hours, the total is 232 hours. Considering that the “Douban 250” list will change every week, it is estimated that there are about 10 more movies to watch. According to the speed of watching one movie a day, it takes about 4 months to watch all the movies of “Douban 250”.

After I finish Douban 250, I will go to IMDB TOP 250. According to the “IMDb Top 250” bean list I follow, among the IMDb 250 movies, I have watched 99 and haven’t watched 151. Considering that there are so many duplicate movies on IMDB 250 and Douban 250, I estimate that I only need to watch about 50-100 more movies to complete the IMDB TOP 250.
