Amazon to pilot drone deliveries in California

Amazon announced Monday that it will be piloting Prime Air, a drone delivery system, in Lockeford, California. Amazon worked with the FAA and officials in the small town of Lockeford south of Sacramento to obtain a permit to fly the drone. California House of Representatives Heath Flora said Lockeford residents will soon have access to world-leading delivery innovations. Amazon, which has spent years developing a drone delivery system, won FAA approval in 2020, but has since scaled down the program. Amazon says its drones can reliably avoid obstacles. The cargo delivered by the drone hangs below it, so shooting the drone could destroy the cargo it is carrying.
