Baidu prepares to release chatbot similar to ChatGPT

Bloomberg quoted people familiar with the matter as reporting that Baidu is preparing to release an AI chatbot similar to ChatGPT in March. The tool, which has not yet been named, will be embedded in the main search service, and users will return conversational-style search results. Baidu, which has spent billions of dollars researching AI over the past few years, is basing its new tool on its machine learning model, Ernie. Baidu, which has lagged behind arch-rivals Tencent, ByteDance and Alibaba over the past few years, has been working hard to regain its footing. In addition to AI, its other research focus is autonomous driving technology. Baidu CEO Robin Li mentioned in an internal discussion last December that ChatGPT could help it take the lead again.
