Today is a special day – International Cat Day!

To be honest, for some, every day is a cat day ? But for today’s occasion, we have prepared this lovely cat drawing for you. It was created by Dutch-born Belgian artist Henriette Ronner-Knip, known for her portraits of cats. Her paintings feature feathery soft brushstrokes and warm colors, giving them an emotional feel. She perfectly depicts the texture of the cat’s fur and the brilliance in the eyes. The animals she depicts often play or sleep in the interiors of middle-class homes, on expensive furniture and luxurious fabrics.

Well, I admit that Ronner-Knip also depicts dogs, birds and many other pets…but cats are the protagonists of most of her work. ?

Thanks to the Rijksmuseum , we are able to display today’s work.

PS To properly celebrate International Cat Day, we encourage you to admire 15 of the cutest cats in art history . <3

PPS Do you know where to find more cats? In our postcard set! In the “50 Women Artists” postcard set you’ll find one of Henriette Ronner-Knip’s work, and in the “50 Works of Japanese Art” postcard set you’ll find more cats, Because Japanese artists are very fond of depicting them. Check out these two sets of postcards ! ?
