Gerda Roosval-Kallstenius was a Swedish painter specializing in landscapes and human scenes. Today we present an unusually sensual and intimate work by the artist on Hyacinth. She held the flower in her hands close to her chest, closing her eyes and focusing entirely on its fragrance. This self-portrait was created by Roswal Karstenius while living in Paris with her husband Gottfried Karstenius, who was also a painter. In her Paris sketchbook, she wrote: “Art – a free (= self-determined) human activity whose purpose is to reproduce or preserve a sense of ‘beauty’.” In her self-portraits, she Seems to try to restore the beauty of hyacinth and its pleasant fragrance.
This painting totally reminds us of summers that have passed! Where did it go so fast? : )
