I remember that I learned about this poem only after listening to the Taoist program “One Thousand and One Nights”; although I can’t do what is written in the following poem, I hope it can be so.

There is more than one Chinese translation version, the following is the version I heard when I first came into contact with this poem, and the translator is Cheng Bi ² .

Not afraid of the rain

Not afraid of the wind

Not afraid of winter snow and heat

have a strong body

no desire no desire

never get angry

always smile calmly

Daily meal half a liter of brown rice

with miso and some vegetables

Living in the shade of wild pine trees

small thatched cottage
