CDC Evening School Review No.24|Experience Design Tools from an Intern's Perspective, How Western Christianity Investigated Chinese Society in the Early 20th Century

About CDC Evening Schools

Keywords|Professional · Cross-border · Exploration · Growth

CDC is known as the “Whampoa Military Academy” in the field of user experience design, which is closely related to our attitude of continuous pursuit of truth and refinement and a variety of learning and growth measures. The CDC night school has been going on for nearly 10 years. The theme of the night school not only covers user research, brand design, experience design, R&D technology and other majors, but also involves many cross-border fields such as lifestyle, architectural art, photography, etc. It is our precipitation, sharing, and professional growth. It also allows partners from different majors to flexibly and easily obtain opportunities to learn and discuss cutting-edge topics across fields, so as to jointly expand the boundaries of knowledge and achieve high-quality growth.

Based on the past experience as an interviewer, the course describes the findings of the interactive intern in the preparation of portfolios, the use of design tools, the construction of workplace mentality, and the depth of problem thinking. It is hoped that by sharing the experience, it can bring to school students and friends. Some inspirations will bring value in the follow-up further studies and interviews:

1. Portfolio preparation should avoid lack of focus: Different companies will have different interview inspection points, and in large factories, they will be divided into finer details. Generally, the initial interview will focus on examining the mastery of professional skills in a certain position, and the students’ skills. plasticity.

Limited by the interview time, portfolio and interview process, it should not be all laid out and without focus. Taking the interview and interactive internship as an example, the portfolio should clearly present the user goals, scenarios, tasks (what type of users the audience is), task flow chart (divided into major stages), and product core interface (must be seen clearly, and it is taboo to hand-paint as the final result. ), all the interface of a task and the interaction details that need to be explained (allowing the interviewer to experience the effects of “interaction” such as smoothness, efficiency, and low learning costs), if you can establish verification indicators and have small Scope agile verification processes are documented and discovered even better.

2. Use design tools to avoid swallowing dates: Most of the interview students have learned and used the “journey map”. But you should pay attention to a few pits in it, what kind of sample data collection is the user portrait based on, what is the emotional curve based on, and most importantly, you must point out which pain points and opportunities the follow-up design plan is aimed at of. One important point to keep in mind: each tool is there to indicate what to do and how to do it next, and if it’s not clear, come back and look at the use of the tool.

3. Workplace mentality building, exporting your own value: In schools, students are the enjoyers of school training services; in companies, organizations will hope and require you to be the exporter of services. CDC’s instructors will develop training plans for interns, but most of these training plans are based on actual work needs – training with battle. For example, in order to let you master the basic interaction principles, you will be able to walk through the demo and discover the experience problems. The students themselves must master these contents. During the work process, they will collide with the tutors to improve the work results, and the students themselves will be improved. Please get used to a change: in school, the teacher will urge you to hand in your homework; in the enterprise, you should take the initiative to ask me what I can do, do it independently first, and ask how to do it better, and there will be greater gains.

4. Think about the depth of the problem and practice structured thinking: There is such a situation –

Product Manager: Designer O, please add a Banner here.

Designer Xiao O: OK!

Designer leader: What will this Banner bring to users? What’s the problem with solving it? Is it worth the user to spend 2 seconds to see it?

Designer Xiao O: I don’t know, the product was added.

Designer leader: … (the heart is, what is the use of you)

As far as I am concerned, the habit of structured thinking guides me to clarify the relationship between “reason and action”, and gradually take stock of the meaning of each action in the plan. It is a “worldview” and “methodology” to explore the user’s motivation, which can be avoided. Let the Leader think about the perilous situation of “what is it for you”. The space is limited. Here is an article by Mr. Enya, “Structured Thinking, one of the compulsory courses for designers”, as the end, for everyone to understand structured thinking.

“Investigative Materials on Christianity in China from 1901 to 1920” (formerly “Return of China to the Lord”) is a precious document that records the investigation and research of Western Christianity on Chinese society in the early 20th century. The content of the book goes far beyond the scope of mission, and records the detailed and thorough investigation of Christianity on my country’s politics, geography, population, social thought, economy, education, etc. Starting from the working ideas of user research, the course transforms reading sharing into research sharing, so that students can understand the basic logic and routines of user research work while listening to historical stories. The sharing is carried out from the following five dimensions:

1. Research background: Introduce the historical background of Chinese society, Western society and research institutions in the early 20th century;

2. Research purpose: The research objectives of the survey and the overall strategic direction of the survey organization were sorted out;

3. Research design: The project design of the research institution is shown in terms of methodology, data sources, human resource arrangements, time planning, funding sources, etc.;

4. Research execution: analyzed the data quality risks and quality control cases of the research;

5. Display of research results: It shows the basic framework of the book and compares it with the CDC research report.

Finally, the wonderful content of the book is excerpted, showing the breadth and depth of the survey’s insight into Chinese society. Although this book is a testament to the imperialists’ use of religion to collect intelligence on our country, from an objective point of view, it is also a valuable material for us to understand the social changes in modern China and understand the methodology of Western investigation and research, and it is worthy of dialectical study by user researchers.
