China’s first desktop operating system root community was born! Seven academicians support

On June 24, the openKylin community was officially released, which is also the first desktop operating system root community in China.

The openKylin community aims to build a top-level open source community for desktop operating systems through open source and open community cooperation on the basis of open source, voluntary, equality, and collaboration with “co-creation” as the core.

Based on Kylin Software’s decades of operating system research and development achievements and more than ten years of open source community development and construction experience, the openKylin community has cooperated with the National Industry and Information Security Center, Puhua Basic Software, Zhongke Fangde, Kylin Xinan, Ningsi Software, Yiming Software, ZTE New Fulcrum, Yuanxin Technology, China Electric Power 32 Institute, Jide System, Beijing Linzhuo, Advanced Operating System Innovation Center and other industry peers to build together.

Academician Shen Changxiang, Academician Ni Guangnan, Academician Gui Weihua, Academician Zheng Weimin, Academician Wang Yaonan, Academician Liao Xiangke, Academician Wang Huaimin of Chinese Academy of Sciences and other scientific masters were invited to attend the press conference and delivered speeches, all highly affirmed the openKylin community’s contribution to the development of open source technology in China It is of strategic significance to call on more industry partners to join in, and work together to build a desktop operating system root community that is “industry-led, platform-independent, technologically advanced, and ecologically rich”.

At the press conference, the openKylin community issued certificates to the first 13 council members including Kylin Software Co., Ltd.

Zhu Chen, chairman of the openKylin community, said that the original intention of building openKylin is to break the bottleneck and promote the prosperity and development of my country’s Linux open source technology and its software and hardware ecology. He hopes that more enterprises and developers will join in and build openKylin into the world’s top Open source community.

The so-called root community refers to the community that is built on the basis of the Linux kernel and other open source components and does not depend on upstream distributions.

Affected by the international situation, the open source ecosystem has now begun to have national boundaries, and SUSE, RedHat, and Ubuntu have stopped supporting and providing professional services to Russian companies.

More and more facts have proved that open source does not mean borderless, nor does it mean absolute security.
