The first one is about the photographer. One time David organized a team party and hired a photographer to take pictures. It may be due to inexperience or shy nature, the photographer did not teach everyone how to stand and pose. More often, he politely said, just do whatever you want. This made David very annoyed, he felt that he paid you to come, you should teach us how to do it, this is your profession, your responsibility, “easy-going” can only make this photographer very amateur.
The second story comes from a captain. As a child, David once went into the cockpit to watch a plane take off. Luckily, there was a thunderstorm. The captain asked the terminal to change the route before takeoff to avoid the lightning storm ahead. The terminal refused, instructing the captain to maintain the established route and let him take off. The captain didn’t compromise and continued, “Yes, but I won’t do it. We’ll stop here and wait, or you promise me to fly 040.” A minute later, the terminal accepted his request, so The plane took off in a direction to avoid the storm.
What can we learn from this? Politeness, moderation, and wall riding may protect oneself from conflict. But only the conviction and persistence are the performance of professionalism and courage. The team needs a responsible leader, the family needs a responsible backbone, and the community needs people who dare to speak the truth.
What was your response when people wanted you to be the captain?
