different summer

Another five months without writing a thing, and five months when so much has happened.

Develop a new habit, read a book for a while before getting up. In the past, I often saw some chicken soup articles saying that as long as you keep reading for half an hour every day, your reading volume can be very large in one year. I found that to be the case, and compared to my old self, it was so much more.

One night, I picked up a magazine from the bookshelf at home and flipped through it, and I knew about the special issue of Yukio Mishima by Sunrise. I suddenly became interested in this author who finally died by cutting his belly. It happened that the bookshelf was filled with his books (the books on the bookshelf were all that I had never read), so I took “Chaosao” as a tool to understand Mishima. start. I used to dislike reading novels very much, but I really like the delicacy of Mishima’s writing. I always set up scenes, place characters, and imagine his novels, just like making movies in my mind while reading them. In one breath, I have finished reading the very thick “Sea of Abundance” tetralogy, “The Golden Pavilion” and “Pure White Night”, and I am reading the short story collection “The Passage of the Demons”.

There are also four books by the American writer Salinger, the author of “The Catcher in the Rye”. “The Catcher in the Rye” was boring at first, but after reading it, I understood Salinger’s style. The other books are “Nine Stories”, “Franny and Zooey”, “Raise the Beams, Carpenters; Seymour: A Biography”, I like the stories of a few gifted children.

Then I wanted to finish reading Kafka’s novels, but the early short stories made me feel incomprehensible, so I stopped reading them. Reading a book is really a very happy thing, especially sometimes it can resonate, but the most important thing for me is that it can make me calm down.

Recently, we have bought a lot of albums. The number of albums in our collection has increased from a few to dozens. Buying albums is a happy thing to spend money ?. I also bought a box of 60 blind boxes, basically vinyl from 30-50 years ago. Then look at its covers and singers one by one, and listen to them. This process is very interesting because there is absolutely no expectation of what is inside. I found a lot of very good bands and singers that I hadn’t heard before, I searched their profiles, went to YouTube to find old videos, and sorted them out. For example, the singer IRUKA, I like it very much.

When it comes to the hobby of listening to vinyl, I have to mention the APP mystery vinyl derived from it. If you use a very utilitarian way of thinking to think about what product to make, it will definitely not come to this world. Officially, we greatly enjoy the process of making a flash of inspiration, so there is such a small application. Five months after the launch, we unexpectedly ranked first in the App Store rankings in the United States, and we never dreamed of it. But I fantasized about using all the money I made from the mystery vinyl to buy records, and then opening a small shop selling vinyl in Hangzhou.

There are still many things that I didn’t expect this summer. For example, the answer clock was nominated for the Apple Design Award. Although I didn’t win the award in the end, I was satisfied. The story of our entrepreneurship was featured in Apple Newsroom, and the story of doing OffScreen was featured in the App Store. Finally, Alen and Tim Cook made a video communication to introduce our company and products. A magical summer. A friend asked me over coffee with me if anything had changed in my life, and I told him not at all. Really no, I am a very happy person every day, I don’t have too many desires, I don’t envy others, I know what kind of life I want. These external stimuli can temporarily bring mental stimulation, and after that, they can quickly return to a normal state.

Enjoy the bland, but find that everything is getting better, both life and work.
