High severity rate of encephalitis in Taiwan’s Mikron patients

As the novel coronavirus, Omicron, ravaged the world, outbreaks of encephalitis in children were almost unheard of. However, in Taiwan, according to statistics, as of June 21, a total of 18 children have died from the disease in this wave of new crown variant epidemics, and 5 of them have symptoms of encephalitis. Among children under the age of 12, 21 of the 65 severely ill with COVID-19 developed symptoms of encephalitis. Professor Huang Limin, director of the Children’s Hospital of National Taiwan University, explained that since there are not many cases of children with encephalitis diagnosed in Taiwan’s domestic new crown cases, and there are almost no records abroad, everything is still in the hypothetical stage, and there is no way to determine the cause. But in the face of parental anxiety, there is no other effective prevention method other than vaccination.
