The artist claims that he named the painting Impression, Sunrise because of the hazy style of painting he paints the subject: “They asked me for a title to use as a catalogue, and it couldn’t really be taken from Le Havre. I got a glimpse of you, so I said, ‘Let’s use ‘impressions’. ‘” Among other things, some art historians have claimed that Monet may have named the painting “Impression,” in case his painting was accused of being unfinished or lacking descriptive details.
