InterContinental Hotels Group hit by cyber attack

InterContinental Hotels Group, which operates 6,028 hotels in more than 100 countries around the world, confirmed a cyber attack that severely disrupted applications such as its room reservation function. IHG did not provide further details and did not disclose whether customer data was stolen. In its statement, it said it was restoring affected systems, suggesting it could be a ransomware attack — ransomware that encrypts systems on a network. The vast majority of ransomware attacks steal data in addition to encrypting the system, allowing for double extortion on the victim. Last month, the ransomware gang Lockbit claimed to have attacked the Holiday Inn Istanbul Kadıköy, which is owned by InterContinental Hotels.
