Musk and Twitter disagree over terms of takeover

Months of drama surrounding the fate of Elon Musk’s blockbuster takeover of Twitter continues as representatives from both sides struggle to negotiate the terms of a deal that would allow the acquisition to go ahead. It was the latest discussion between the two sides ahead of the upcoming court standoff. Before Musk reversed course on Monday and said he would buy Twitter under the terms of the original agreement, negotiators from both sides had quietly and unsuccessfully negotiated a potential price cut, according to people familiar with the matter. As of Wednesday evening, representatives from Musk and Twitter were working to finalize the details of Musk’s proposal this week to comply with the original agreement, including how the parties would need to drop lawsuits over the stalled deal, people familiar with the matter said. Completion will depend on Musk’s ability to secure the necessary debt financing.
