French artist Robert Delaunay, who co-founded the Orphism art movement with his wife Sonia Delaunay and others, painted nine nude women for this movement Read the subject’s work. In general, Delaunay rarely painted nude figures. Unlike many other abstract painters of the early 20th century, however, Delaunay also painted figurative works. In this category, “Reading Nude Woman” applies the principles of color used in abstract painting to the figures.
Orpheanism, or Orpheus Cubism, as a term coined by the French poet Guillaume Apollinaire in 1912, is a branch of Cubism that focuses on pure abstraction and brightness The colors of Fauvism were influenced by Fauvism, the theoretical writings of Paul Signac, Charles Henry, and the dye chemist Eugène Chevreul. This movement is considered key to the transition from Cubism to abstract art. We can see the principles of Orphism here: the oval format of the image echoes and emphasizes the soft, sloping curves of the female body, and the oval curves are repeated in the lines of her hips and left leg. Color is based on the principle of complementary contrasts, also a balanced and dynamic design, which is the basis of Delaunay’s color theory.
