New Dad Five-Year Plan | 263 Incentives

In between reading Jonathan Haidt’s The Elephant and the Rider and The Righteous Heart , I also read a book called Focus . The subtitle of Focus is “Using Different Ways to See the World for Success and Impact”. I don’t know what the authors and editors thought about naming this book, because I think both the title and the subtitle are far from the theme of the book.

The theme of this book is people’s preferences for incentives and how to match those preferences to drive people to take action for better results. I really want to discuss this book in the topic of parenting, because the author emphasizes that the formation of people’s motivational preferences is caused by the parenting style. This is very inconsistent with my parenting intuition and practice.
