New York reports first U.S. case of polio in years

New York has reported a case of polio, or polio , the first polio to emerge in the United States in years. The patient is located in Rockland County, New York, which had a measles outbreak in parts in 2019 due to low vaccination rates. The patient is a young adult, unvaccinated and has not recently travelled abroad, who is now not contagious but paralyzed by the virus. It is unclear how he became infected and health officials are investigating close contacts. Rockland County, New York City and New York State health officials are urging unvaccinated residents, especially children, to get vaccinated.
