“Period, getting lost, bad photos, flea market, class reunion, business card box, phone in the kitchen, reading the newspaper…”

It has only been more than 10 years since the Internet has fully integrated into the life of our city. However, the birth and development of the Internet has indeed taken some things away from us. If these things are lost, they may really be lost.

The convenience that technology has brought us is obvious to all, and more and more new technologies have brought us surprises. However, few people think about these things lost. The book “100 Things that Disappeared in the Internet Age” written by Pamela Paul, editor-in-chief of “New York Times Book Review”, lists 100 things/objects that have disappeared due to the development of the Internet, most of which have appeared in In our lives, but most of them are no longer found, or hidden in dusty boxes, or these things still exist, but they have been replaced by other new things.

For example, about the telephone, there are several chapters in the book that are related to the telephone. Such as the telephone directory, strange calls (without displaying the phone number of the caller), and the phone in the kitchen – which often appeared in movies or American dramas before. I still remember that when I checked my scores for the senior high school entrance examination and college entrance examination, because I didn’t have a landline phone/mobile phone at home, I wanted to check my score but I was embarrassed to open my mouth directly to the neighbor’s house. In the end, I had to be accompanied by my parents who were abusive, and the neighbors were also present (calling at the time very expensive, long-distance calls are even more expensive) I dialed the score checking phone and completed the score check at a loss, but fortunately the results of the two checks were not bad, and I didn’t lose face in front of the neighbors, otherwise it would be enough for the time. I have been suffering for a while.

Although I am still making calls now, at least the landline phone at home has not been used for a long time, or it has broken down – I just made a call quietly, and the prompt is a blind tone. There was also no excitement when the landline at home suddenly rang and I didn’t know who was on the other side, and the phone was connected, because the phone bill was more expensive, I hurriedly finished speaking on the phone, and hung up the phone in seconds that kind of tension. Now we can make phone calls/Internet calls almost without any scruples, and we don’t have to worry about the length of the call at all. On the contrary, sometimes it becomes an annoyance if the call time is too long.

The good news is that the frequency of retro trends has been accelerating in the past few years. Every few months, an old gadget or antique becomes a new fashion and is rushed to be reported by major media, such as tape players and vinyl record players. The former niche mobile phone brands Plam, Blackberry, and Nokia, these products have appeared more and more on e-commerce websites in recent years, and these gadgets have begun to appear more and more in the field of vision of young people, although in most cases They are all posed for photos and posted on social media. At least young people have the opportunity to get in touch with these old objects and understand what the old antiques looked like many years ago and how they evolved step by step to what they are now.
