Synthetic biology company Puna Bio raises $3.7 million

Puna Bio is an Argentine developer and application provider of microbial synthesis technology, dedicated to using microorganisms to improve food production. Puna Bio has discovered and studied unique strains in Puna de Atacama in the Andes for more than 20 years. Pivot Bio has improved the nitrogen production of microorganisms through the screening and gene reprogramming of nitrogen-producing microorganisms, and has overcome the problems of large-scale production. Puna Bio announced today that it has secured $3.7 million in seed funding to be used to commercially launch its first soybean seed extremophile inoculant, a type of microbial fertilizer, in Argentina. The round was led by At One Ventures and Builders VC, with participation from Brazil’s SP Ventures and Air Capital, as well as pre-seed funders IndieBio (SOSV), GLOCAL and Grid Exponential.
