More and more automakers are embracing touchscreens, and physical buttons are becoming less common in cars. But one test found that drivers took far less time to complete tasks with physical buttons than with a touchscreen . The Swedish car magazine “Vi Bilägare” tested the human-machine interface systems of 11 cars, measuring the time it took for drivers to perform simple tasks such as adjusting the temperature of the radio, while the cars were traveling at 110 km/h. The control car used for the test was a 17-year-old Volvo V70 from 2005 with physical buttons. The results showed that the V70 took only 10 seconds to complete the task, while the Tesla Model 3 car took 23.5 seconds, and SAIC’s electric car, the MG Marvel R, was the worst performer, taking 44.9 seconds.
