TikTok executives questioned by the U.S. Senate

TikTok Chief Operating Officer Vanessa Pappas was questioned by lawmakers on Wednesday before the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. U.S. senators and regulators are concerned that TikTok will hand over U.S. user data to the Chinese government, which Pappas vehemently denies, saying it has never provided data to the Chinese government and that parent company ByteDance is not based in China because it has no headquarters. She said ByteDance has strict data access controls and that the Chinese government has not influenced the company’s corporate policies. TikTok recently started sending traffic through Oracle’s servers, but some data is still backed up on ByteDance’s servers in Singapore and Virginia.
