Vultr’s Free VPS

About a month ago, Vultr launched a new free tier, the first of its kind for VPS service providers at Vultr’s level. Before it, only Google, Amazon, and Oracle provided this free service.

The program is currently in the early bird stage. Of course, I will also apply to participate in this free service in the future. About a few weeks ago, I received an email of approval. A few days ago, I opened this free VPS. Link to apply.

This free service is not available in all data centers, only a few regions can see this option.

The specifications of the Free VPS are as follows:

  • 1 virtual CPU
  • 512MB RAM
  • 10GB disk
  • Plus 2 TB of free global traffic

When deploying this free VPS, you need to select Cloud Compute, Intel Regular Performance in the Vultr background.

Because there is only 512MB of memory, Ubuntu cannot be selected when I choose, so I chose Debian 11 as the operating system.

In the received email and the account page of the Vultr background, you can see the time of the free package, which is one year for the time being, and I don’t know if it will be extended in the future. And there are some restrictions on usage, such as only one free VPS at a time.

Below are the specs obtained with some commands.

Use hwinfo –short

The performance is not tested. This kind of free VPS can be used, and the performance will definitely not be good.
