Due to chronic anxiety and stress, I am always looking for ways and means to free myself from stress or to deal with it. In recent years, mindfulness meditation has been advertised as “magic”. Those who practiced mindfulness meditation claimed that “mindfulness meditation can achieve the effect of resting for a whole night.” Naturally, it was very attractive, so I also started a long mindfulness practice.

My mindfulness practice actually didn’t start well. Meditation originated from Buddhism, but it is different from Buddhist meditation. Therefore, it cannot be simply understood as Buddhist meditation. The modern “mindfulness meditation” is after the concept of religion has been removed. product.

Mindfulness means being in the present moment, living in the present moment, and not distracted. It means settling the mind in a natural state of awakening, without any prejudice or judgment.

“Ten Minute Meditation”

From the introduction of mindfulness, in fact, we can roughly know what mindfulness can do: to restore our disturbed mind to peace, and to view our state with a natural and peaceful state of mind. In other words, mindfulness does not cure the disease, it just helps you return to peace and deal with problems with a peaceful mind . Therefore, mindfulness meditation is not suitable for everyone, from my perspective, it is more suitable for those who are highly emotional, prone to irritability, inability to concentrate, etc.

Mindfulness meditation is really suitable for you when you correct your perception of mindfulness meditation and control your expectations.

After talking about the basic knowledge of mindfulness meditation, let’s talk about what I think is helpful to me in the process of learning meditation by myself:

  • The HeadSpace Guide to Mindfulness Meditation : This is a Netflix documentary/tutorial by Andy Puddicombe , founder of HeadSpace, that introduces some of the easier ways to get started with meditation.
  • Ten Minute Meditation : This book is also written by Andy Puddicombe . Compared to the documentary, it provides richer information and context, which is more helpful for understanding the value of mindfulness.

If you are also planning to learn mindfulness, these two resources should be of great help to you.

In addition to these videos/books, the ones I see most now are various meditation apps. Most of them provide some meditation audios, which can help you quickly enter certain states. For beginners, with the help of these apps and the guidance provided, you can quickly experience the state of meditation first. But it’s also important to note that you can’t rely on these apps in situations where you actually need to meditate. These apps are good teaching aids, but don’t rely too much on them, or you’ll put the cart before the horse.

You need to try to acquire the skills of autonomous mindfulness meditation when using these apps, so that you can quickly enter the state when you really need mindfulness meditation.
