I started reading Dostoevsky a lot this month, and “Notes from the Basement” is especially amazing. This book says a lot of things that I dare not say. Maybe everyone has more or less similar (dark) thoughts in their hearts. , just like the dark side of the basement. Dostoyevsky wrote it out and put it in front of everyone in exaggerated form.

Zweig in later generations must have been deeply influenced, because similar psychological analyses frequently appeared in Zweig’s works. Therefore, Zweig’s “Three Masters” can be so profound, because they are almost the same kind of people.

  • “The Poor” : Finished reading. Dostoevsky’s debut novel is also famous. The portrayal of the poor in it is undoubtedly successful, but the prose is too verbose to appreciate.
  • “Three Masters” : Finished reading. Among the subjective biographies written by Zweig, the three are Balzac, Dickens, and Dostoevsky. Among them, the latter is the most inscribed, which shows his preference. It is more appropriate to think of this book as a review of the three masters.
  • “Notes from the Basement” : Finished reading. Dostoevsky’s novel is a watershed before and after, and the image of the basement man can be described as a classic. Everyone has a dark side inside, and this basement man is a composite of everyone.
  • “School Records” : Finished reading. He Zhaowu’s oral memoirs are sincere, frank, and worth reading.
  • “Zhu Rongji Answers Reporters’ Questions” : Finish reading. Face problems and solve them without losing the sense of humor.
  • “Prison Trivia” : Finished reading. Authentic prison life with vivid characters and stories. One of the characters is very interesting, Xu Zhangben and Qian Xuesen, and Wu Ningkun and Li Zhengdao in “A Drop of Tears”.
  • “County and Township China” : Currently reading. All Saints Book Garden topped the list in July. I was very interested in reading the catalogue. It is said that it is a must-read list for grassroots civil servants. Learn more.
  • Metaphors We Live By: Reading. I read it over and over several times, but I was interrupted by other interesting books. I still haven’t finished it this time, but every time I read it, I have a new harvest.
  • The Brothers Karamazov : Reading. I’m about to finish reading, and I’ve been spoiled for the second half of the plot, but I still want to read it. That’s how good works are, even if they’re spoiled, it doesn’t affect reading, just like “The Coquettish Lawyer”.
  • “Touching the Soul of the Age: He Zhaowu on Reading” : Currently reading. Excerpts from He Zhaowu’s articles, many of which have been read in “Going to School”. This series of booklets basically collected He Zhaowu’s articles according to the editor’s theme, which did not function as an outline and lacked sincerity.
