Withdrawal from Chinese social media platforms

On August 15, 2022, I made a two-hour video to be released on哔哩哔哩. When my upload is complete, I wait quietly for review. The result turned out to be unapproved. Beginning to be disappointed with哔哩哔哩. No video has been updated since then.

On October 13, 2022, I went out for a walk in the evening as usual, and received an email from the forwarding company, indicating that the硬件密钥I purchased was a prohibited item and could not be forwarded to mainland China. So I Twitter the following.

I bought two Yubikey 5C NFC at the Cloudflare x Yubico event a few days ago. After arriving at the transshipment warehouse, I was told that it was contraband and could only be returned. Return shipping costs are higher than the total item price. It’s really hard in mainland China.

When I copied it and wanted to post it on新浪微博, it was prompted that my account was abnormal. That means my account was banned at that moment, and I couldn’t like, comment, repost, follow, or unblock. And disappear directly on other people’s Weibo. At that time, I was dumbfounded. It has been nearly 10 years since I registered for Weibo in 2013. Never published any illegal content, never participated in any political topics and hot search topics, and never quarreled and cursed on Weibo. Weibo members have been open for 8 years and are currently VIP7. Weibo has certified photography bloggers, and Weibo real-name authentication and Weibo’s name is real name. I really don’t know why I was banned, whether it was the tweet I wanted to post, or the tweet I posted earlier. I turned it over again, almost every day, and there are no sensitive words.

So, I opened Twitter and started to search for the keyword –微博炸. I found a lot of friends who had a similar experience with me, and some of them were banned because they posted “I saw it”. There are also a lot of people, like me, who just lost their account without sending anything. It can be regarded as a little comfort in my heart, after all, I am not the only one who has encountered this problem.

After that, I started to search for various materials to find a way to unblock it. Of course, the official Weibo website provides a button to解除异常, but according to the experience of netizens, this official method is basically impossible to get any response, or the review fails. In addition, it is worth mentioning that Weibo has no human customer service, because you can’t find the population of human / online customer service at all. Later, I chose the互联网信息服务投诉平台and complained to新浪微博. Currently still processing.

Through these two things, I am very disappointed with Chinese social platforms. To be honest, I really want to break away from domestic social platforms. But these accounts from elementary school to college mean a lot to me. For example, through Weibo, I met a lot of interesting people, many of whom were netizens but are now good friends. What’s more, there are many bloggers I like who will update on Weibo. Of course I probably won’t update anything even after unblocking.

After two days of thinking, I decided to quit all social platforms in China, including哔哩哔哩知乎and so on. Originally, I liked to contribute some of my experiences or some interesting discoveries on these social platforms. But too many restrictions forced me to stop updating permanently. I’ve modified the signatures for all platforms to永久停止更新. After that, it may gradually move away from微信. In recent years, there have been very few posts in the circle of friends, because too many family members, teachers, friends and strangers have been added to WeChat. Most of the time, I don’t want to post a circle of friends, for fear of disturbing everyone. Weibo itself is an emotional window for me. I will share my daily life. Of course, most of the content I share is relatively positive.

The plan after that is to update on Twitter at the previous frequency, and will also consider restarting the YouTube channel. In addition, I will try to use less social platforms and focus more on development. I will keep the GitHub community and PyPi update the Projects I write.

If you want to contact me, please do not contact微信. Please contact me on Discord or Telegram . You can always find me on both platforms and tell me anything you want.

The last thing I want to say is that I hope I’m a good example and that tragedy doesn’t happen again. Try to speak as little as possible, you never know if some sensitive words will come out. The official will always prefer to block by mistake, and will not miss a person.
