2022 “Ford Environmental Awards”: “Ecotourism Route Award” and “Climate Change Action Award” become new hot spots

Since the application was launched in May, nearly 200 application proposals have been received from 28 provinces/autonomous regions/municipalities. The other two innovation awards have become new hot spots for project application this year. In recent years, addressing climate change has become one of the most concerned public issues in the world. In response to the advocacy and efforts made by various international organizations around the world on the challenge of climate change, the “Ford Automobile Environmental Award” specially established the “Climate Change Action Award” this year, which aims to encourage efforts to mitigate, adapt to climate change, and scale up The environmental protection public welfare project that has played a practical role in the low-carbon lifestyle, enhances the environmental protection organization to continue to play the value of environmental governance participants in the “double carbon” issue. This year, the award received a total of 63 project applications, covering 19 provinces and cities, of which 10 projects were implemented across provinces and 1 project was implemented overseas; 56% of the application projects for the award involved “large-scale low-carbon lifestyle”, 54% were involved in climate change mitigation, and nearly 30% were involved in climate change adaptation. According to the project results mentioned in the application proposal, the cumulative emission reduction of all projects is about 2,827 tons of carbon dioxide. The “Annual Contribution Award”, the gold medal of the “Ford Automobile Environmental Protection Award”, is still the award that receives the most applications, and it aims to reward environmental protection social organizations that have made outstanding achievements in environmental protection. This year, this traditional award has received applications from 91 institutions in 22 provinces/autonomous regions/municipalities. More than 80% of the applicants’ fields of work include environmental governance, and more than 60% of the applicants’ fields of work include pollution prevention and control. As of last year, a total of 455 environmental organizations or projects have been awarded the award.

In 2021, the “Ford Automobile Environmental Award” created the “Eco-tourism Route Award” for the first time in China. This award is the first in the domestic environmental protection field to use ecotourism as a new business format, and proposes to reward those ecotourism projects that encourage and attract public participation. Launched for the first time last year, it has received positive attention and declarations from a large number of ecotourism agencies. This year, the “Ecotourism Route Award” will continue to explore and support ecotourism projects with public participation, and 42 project applications have been received so far. Among them, more than 60% of the application projects are from areas with diverse ecosystems and unique ethnic cultures such as southwest and northwest, such as Qinghai, Yunnan and other places.
